Get advice on how to support your child if they&#8217;ve seen something online that&#8217;s confused or upset them. Online gaming devices are just like a computer and a lot of parents don\u2019t realize that. It can also be used to create chatbots or fake profiles that mimic real people. Artificial intelligence (AI) can pose several risks to children who engage in online gaming. If they have a problem, consider a digital detox where you literally take everything away for a month and let their brain reset. If online gaming disorder is suspected, seek the support of a licensed mental health practitioner with experience in treating this disorder.<br \/>\nThese include ADHD, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and even autistic-like symptoms known as \u201cvirtual autism\u201d. Installing parental control software, limiting game time, and having open conversations about online dangers are all important steps. Whether your child is gaming at home or elsewhere, it\u2019s important to talk with them about the risks of online gaming and encourage smart, age-appropriate choices.<br \/>\nThis includes managing their personal privacy, thinking critically about what they see and getting help when they need it. Importantly, make sure you include the types of games they can play and with whom they can play when setting boundaries. So, it\u2019s important to read up on the games they want to play before allowing access. This means that if your child browses the console store, they can only access appropriate games.<\/p>\n<h2>Set parental controls<\/h2>\n<p>Many children watch Minecraft videos\/tutorials (for ideas on new things to create) on YouTube, or sites like Discord. Minecraft can be a very immersive and time-consuming game, so you could try to agree on an amount of time that is acceptable (keep it realistic) that includes regular breaks from the screen. You could ask friends or family members who have children which servers they use or try searching \u2018child-friendly servers on Minecraft\u2019 for recommendations and reviews. If someone asks them something private, or to message on another app, then they should speak to you or another trusted adult.<br \/>\nGriefers are gamers who deliberately try to ruin the game for other players. To avoid your child encountering this, encourage them to watch some of the &#8216;best for children&#8217; channels \u2013 you can find recommendations online. Some tutorials can include bad language or inappropriate comments.<\/p>\n<h2>Keep your details private:<\/h2>\n<p>For children under 13, you can manage who your child can speak to by disabling chat completely or limiting it to friends only. Depending on your child\u2019s age, you will be able to build a list of games they can access, so exclude others. As the platform\u2019s safety settings and parental controls are enabled according to the child\u2019s age, it\u2019s important that they sign up with the correct details. Users under 13 need parental permission to access certain chat features, while users under 9 need parental permission to access content graded \u2018moderate\u2019.
